Does anyone have information about any person who had successful reatment of acinic cell carcinoma after surgical removal of initial parotid tumour and then cancer spread to other organs (lungs, for instance)? Does anyone have any information about what the symptoms of the disease are once major deterioration begins? Timetable? Thanks for any feedback at all. My sister is stage IV with metas in both lungs. Now getting oral chemo because she feels great.

Hi

My name is Penny. I am very sorry to hear about your sister. Hope she is doing better. I, myself had salivary gland cancer in 2001. They removed the tumor from my parotid gland (acinic cell carcinoma). No chemo or radiation as the doctor felt he removed all of it. I worry constantly if and where the cancer will return. So far, so good. I have a family history of all types of cancer so my chances are pretty good of it returning. I've been told about 50% chance it will return somewhere. (Other side of parotid or same side, Lungs, bone, or breast) are the culprits. Don't like those odds. Do you know how long since her first diagnosis until they found it in her lungs? I have so many questions and haven't found too many people with acinic cell carcinoma. It's been a while since I checked the web site but will be hoping to hear from you. Good luck to your sister and family. Hope all is going well.

Penny

How is your sister doing now? What is oral chemotherapy? Where is she being treated?

My husband has recently been diagnosed with Stage IV Acinic Cell Adenocarcinoma of Parotid. We are waiting on scan results to see if it has metastasized. Treatment starts next week - 35 photon radiation treatments - everyday for 7 weeks and chemo - cisplatin administered once a week during radiation. We had our PET Scan yesterday and are waiting on results to find if it has metastasized anywhere other than the lymph nodes.
