A second doctor that I saw explained to me that mercury fillings is a possibilty. I'm thinking why mercury fillings, aren't they supposed to be pretty safe and  they last longer than composite fillings.

Hi!  Understand hereditary or radiation exposure at a young age is what is listed as possible causes but most people who get thyroid cancer don't fit into either of these categories.  Are you talking about the siver fillings.  Just about everyone over 40 has silver fillings only so it has to be more than that I would think.

Well I didn't get radiation when I was young so I don't fit into this thyroid cancer risk category.

Well I'm thinking when a silver filling needs replacing and the dentist doesn't do it properly then there is big chance of leakage.

What did your doctor say to you as to why you had thyroid cancer?

Hi!  They don't have a reason.  I guess it hasn't been explored enough to understand what is actually happening with this cancer other than what I mentioned, it can be genetically passed on or radiation exposure.  This type of disease hits a lot of younger women but is most curable in younger women as well.  However, I did read that is use to be rare and the incidence is now greater so who knows, enviornmental issues could play a role.  Water??  Because it is much more curable than other forms of cancer there probably won't be as much research done to determine the cause unless it should become in epidemic proportions.  I know when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and the only one in my family I was trying to explore all the things that contributed to it thinking was there something I did or shouldn't have done but it changes nothing.  You didn't do anything to harm yourself this way if that is a concern.  There was some controversary years ago about silver fillings but it has since died.  I think if this were the case there would be an epidemic of thyroid cancer but maybe it does play some role.
