Gal,

My husband has also suffered from hand foot syndrome. The doctor discontinues treatment for 2 weeks to allow for healing of blisters. Last time it happened doctor lowered dose to 37.5 mg. A moisturizing cream such as eucerin will help keep skin moist. I have heard B6 may also help but my husband hasn't tried it.   Also stay out of sun. Not much else you can do.

Good luck.

There was a study indicating that taking 400 IU per day of vitamin E could help this syndrome. Perhaps he can talk to his doctor to see if it is ok for him to take that as a supplement?

One last thing, a family member uses a cream called Aquaphor.  It is made by the same people who make Eucerin.  I am not sure if they sell it in Israel, but if not, maybe you can order it over the internet.  Best of luck.

My husband had a bad case of foot blisters and his oncologist recommended udder balm....that's right, it was originally made for cows udders.  Many different brands are out there at drug stores etc.  We used a product called Udderly Smooth (www.udderlysmooth.com).  It is inexpensive and worked wonders.  I kept tubes of it all over the house and rubbed his feet several times a day.  Good luck.

You might try taking up to 3 - 100mg tablets of Vitamin B-6 a day. My sister, who is an Oncology RN for over 20 yrs suggested the treatment. The Drs she works with prescribe it to patients experiencing the hand/foot syndrom. It seems to have worked for me. I also use Udder Smooth or Bag Balm. Check with your dad's Dr first. Good luck!

I also have hand foot disease from Sutent.  My physcian recommended Bag Balm applied several times a day.  It does seem to help and has an antiseptic in it which helps prevent infection.  Also, I am not to go bare foot at all, but to always wear socks except in bed.  Hope this helps.

If you use a paste made of pure natural henna and leave it on for several hours, a couple of time per week, it will alleviate the hand foot syndrome. My mother in law has great results with this and we get her henna from www.hennacaravan.com After several applications she was able to walk without difficulty. You can also mix the henna up ahead so the dye is exhausted before use, but who cares about the color when the results are so good.

This is an old farmer's remedy, commonly known in the farming community as "bag balm" because for many years that was the commercial preparation that was available. They not only used it on their animals, but on their own cuts, scrapes, bruises, weather and work roughened skin, etc, etc. I used it in nursing when I had patients with difficult wounds to heal.  It is perfectly safe for human use.

My husband is very interested in this paste. If  we  buy the natural henna powder what  is the recipe  to make the paste - and how do I apply it  - with an applicator or do you use rubber gloves to message it into the skin? Thank you.
