My step-father was diagnosed close to 6 months ago with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He is in a Correctional Institution and I am so afraid they are not treating him as much as they can. He has now been told that he only has 2 months left to live. The only treatment they have provided him with was chemotherapy and physical therapy. His doctor told my mother that he has Stage B, which is aggressive. It is my understanding that radiation is necessary in that aggressive state. I have made contact with as many people that I think might be able to give me information, but I keep hitting brick walls. I want him to have the best chance of survival and I don't think he is being given that. I need help, I'm not sure where to go for information. Thank you.

Sara, I'm sorry that you've had to find us here.

I've no experience with agressive NHL yet with all NHL's basic information is needed.

What is the specific diagnosis? Cell type, stage, etc. Ask for a copy of the pathology report. In fact have your Mom, if you can, get a complete copy of his medical records on this issue. They probably won't give it to you.

CHOP is pretty standard front line treatment.

What other research have you done since your last post?

He has type or stage B cell NHL. Right now they wanted him to go thru radiation, but they won't get an appt until Mid March. And since he is a prisoner, any treatment provided to him has to be approved by the Prison, and that is taking too long. I've made several calls to the Department of Corrections in Washington State, and my sister has filed a complaint with the Department of Social Health and Services. His neck is so swollen that he is afraid to sleep, because he is finding it harder and harder to breathe. I will look into these meds, thank you very much. I really appreciate your concern.

I probably don't have all the info I need, my mom is going to send me his records, so I can be more educated. But your help is really helpful to me right now. Thanks!

I cannot imagine how stressed you must be...it's difficult enough for those with loved one's fighting this disease, and they have easy & rapid access to treatment.

And just think I was considering commiting a crime so I wouldn't have to worry so much about paying for treatment! Maybe that's not such a good idea?

Glad you are going to get info from your mom and wish you strength and good luck in the campaign for rapid treatment.

Sounds like a call to the local newspaper may be in order?
