Have anyone here used Nexavar for liver cancer?  My dad has been on Nexavar for 7 weeks now, but instead of diarrhea, he has constipation and abdominal pain.  Has anyone suffered the same problems besides loss of appetite and fatigue?

My brother has been on Nexavar for a little over 6 weeks now with a week break after being treated for severe anemia, extreme fatigue and loss of appetite.  After blood transfusions and a hospital stay, he has resumed taking the drug, with occasional diarrhea, controlled by Immodium D, and an emetic that has helped appetite.  He also took Megace for a few days to help appetite.  He has had abdominal pain the past couple of days but it is so difficult to know what the pain is due to--cancer itself, Nexavar, combination, other?  But so far he seems to be tolerating the Nexavar pretty well and we pray that it is working.

Thanks for sharing your experience and asking the question.

Good afternoon,

It's good to hear from you.  Is your brother taking Nexavar for liver cancer or...?  If so, is the abominal pain at the liver section or under the belly button?  My dad has it mostly at the lower left section, about 4 inch under the belly button.  Is the pain sharp or dull?  If my dad can have bowel movement or pass gas, it feels better, so I suspect constipation.

You may want to check out this website: http://www.chemocare.com/bio/nexavar.asp for the side effects of Nexavar, abdominal pain is one them.

Hope to hear from you and thank you very much for getting back to me.  God bless you!

My brother has HCC and his current experience of pain has shifted from near the liver to lower in the abdomen.  Abdominal pain is listed as a potential side effect of Nexavar on a fact sheet put out by Bayer on the web though it is not one of the most common side effects.

My husband started the treatment a month ago.

He has had problems with his feet less so with his hands

Hair lost is proceeding at a rapid rate and he get's a lot of bleeding from his mouth.

However although he gets very tired he's upbeat about the whole procedure.

My husband started Nexavar a week ago, so far he does not have any diarrhea, but he has said that he has more stomach pain.  He is fatigued.  His liver cancer has spread to the Portal Vein.  Does anyone know anything about this.  He has advanced liver cancer. They have not given us any time line or anything.  They were going to do a liver transplant until they found it in his Portal Vein.

I would appreciate any kind of information I can get.

Thanks,
DEb

My husband was also on the list for a liver transplant until they found the cancer was "too close to the portal vein". He did RFA first and it didn't work then he did Chemo Embo and tht doesn't seem to be working all that well either. He started Nexevar in 12/07. We will find out if the Chemo Embo and Nexevar together have done anything positive. We travel to Seattle tomorrow for their final determination. He first took four pills/day of Nexevar which made him very sick and his hands and feet were sore and red. We were told the soreness in the liver area was the treatments working. His Oncol. lowered his dose to two tablets/day for a week and now he's on three tablets/day. He is still  pretty active but gets weak, low appetite and fatigue. Docs keep telling us for as sick as he is he's pretty healthy. One thing we're struggling with is his diabetes. He had type 2 but not severe before all this, now he's constantly battling it. Anyone else with tihs? He's taking insulin and pills, etc.

Hope this information helps, we're still looking for alternatives and information as well. It just seems like with all this research that there should be something more.
