Lms Biopsy

hat is the s-100 test on the biopsy? My Mom's biopsy showed 2t desmin and was s-100 negative, which led to the diagnosis being smooth muscle over neural or gastric stromal. The biopsy report was very vague, never said leiomyosarcoma, said the tumor had unknown malignant potential, then said low-grade as there was less than 1 mitosis per high powered field. The local tumor board made the final diagnosis based on how the imaging studies looked, and this makes sense as it was a large (8x8x9cm) heterogenous mass, lobular and invading the IVC. We have a consult with UCSF, but don't know when that will happen- we have a very nice lady at the Onco's office that pushes these things through, and I can certainly be a squeaky wheel. We are also considering Cedar-Sinai as they have a Sarcoma treatment team, and will coordinate care with Dr.s in the patients home town. They say all Sarcoma patients can be seen for initial consult within a week. We just want to get to a sarcoma "think tank" before accepting that no treatment is possible. This may be the case if this is a slow growing tumor that is not going to be responsive to much in a 79 year old woman. JEn
