Subject: Nausea and RAI ?

Hi,

I had my rai treatment on july 30th, this past monday at 10 a.m. I will have my scan on friday August 3rd. I started having on and off nausea on monday night and it is still going on. I was wondering if anyone else has had this reaction and what did you do about it and how long it lasted? Also I have a daughter whose pregnant and her ob-gyn said thursday is long enough for her to be away from me that will be 4 days, can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks in Advance,

Linda

Wow!  We have quite a bit in common.  I just had my RAI today.  I also have a daughter who is pregnant.  However, I am not nauseated.  I wish I had some kind of suggestion for your nausea.  I am not going to be around my daughter for a week. It seems like everyone has a different theory on how long we should avoid contact with others.  I would prefer to err on the side of overly cautious rather than have them find out years later that we should have been more careful.  Hang in there!

Hi!  I had RAI on June 27th and need to qualify my response first with the fact that I have a rather sensitive stomach to begin with....reflux, etc.  That being said, I was pretty sick to my stomach off and on while hypo...the RAI made it worse.  I'm still having trouble with it when I get over-tired and its 5 weeks later.  My secret weapon....chamomile (sp) tea!  Years ago when I was pregnant with my son and sick with morning sickness, a "grandma" in my office taught me this secret....it helped alot then and it definitely helped recently.  Don't know why...just know it does!   S

Thanks so much for your reply,

My daughter is five months along how far along is your daughter? The Nuclear med. Dr. told me something else confusing, he said that if she had of lived with us, she could stay at least 8 ft away and that should be safe, I just don't know about all of this, it sure is confusing. Well anyway, I sure do hope you don't get the nausea.

Thanks,

Linda

Thanks for your reply,

It's a good thing I love chamomile tea, I will try it and see what happens. Did you say you are five weeks out from the rai and still nauseated? I hope that clears up soon for you.

Have your tried crystallized ginger or even ginger snap cookies.  I have major problems with nausea and my doctor suggested ginger and it helped me a lot.  Susan

E Komo Mai (Welcome)

I too have a sensitive stomache.  I like the marinated ginger you get from a Japanese restraurant or Asian market.  When I was pregnant with my son in 2006 I too ate ginger to settle my tummy.  I tried the sugar ginger candy and that was too sweet for me.  My RAI was in May 2007 and it took me about a month after to get back to normal.

Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.  Take Care & God Bless.

Aloha, Paulette

5 weeks yesterday!  The nausea is pretty mild at this point and seems to show up when I'm overly tired.  As I mentioned earlier, I have a pretty sensitive stomach, so it doesn't take much to set it off and going hypo sent it into the statosphere to begin with which is why I suspect its taking longer for this to go away for me.
