I sent a similar message yesterday, but put it under a different category, and now can't locate it.

Anyway, I wonder if you would please talk to me about chemo side effects you might have experienced, especially if you were treated with Erbitux.  I am interested in anyone's experience, however.

My father started chemo yesterday, and the first treatment was fine, he said.  The reading I have done on Erbitux states that nausea and vomiting are not major side effects.

He has stage IV tongue cancer, and his treatment regimen is M-F radiation for seven weeks, with chemo every Tuesday.

I do not live near him, so am trying to keep track of things long-distance.  He is not very good at remembering what doctors have told him or reading the paperwork that he has been given.  I am so worried that he's going to do something wrong, especially when he needs to start using the PEG tube, which has already been inserted.

I know he can be sustained on tube feedings, but I also am concerned about weight loss.  He hasn't been eating well at all to this point, and at 6' tall, he only weighs 141.  I know to anticipate that he will lose weight.  I am afraid a 30-40-pound weight loss will make him medically unstable.

Thank you for your time.  I do really appreciate it.

I had peg tube when I was in treatment. Have him start useing the tube now as he needs to get a regimine started. He may use (need) it later.

I used a picnic type squeeze bottle for my feeding as it was about right size. He also needs to flush it several times daily to keep it clean and clear, may as well use that opportunity to add some boost, V8, or other goodies at the same time. Once he gets used to it he will find it very convienent and it may be easier than trying to swallow food.

Good Luck
