Are calcifications in a nodule a for-sure sign of malignancy? I had my biopsies today, and the doctor skirted around that question. I just finished neck radiation June 6 (for tonsil cancer), would this hamper recovery and healing if TT is necessary?

Calcifications have been a negative and positive omen for me.  I had microcalcifications that actually began to pattern around a small breast tumor signaling a problem.  I also has calcifications show up on ultrasound in thyroid nodules but I also had 6 nodules at the time of ultrasound which turned out to be cancer.  The only sure way in diagnosing thyroid cancer is a needle aspiration biopsy or biopsy of the actual nodule or tissue.  Sounds as though you have a lot going on with the tonsil cancer as well, these questions your radiation oncologist and cancer team should be able to answer.  Best of luck!

Calcifications DO NOT always mean cancer.

I just had a massive ovarian endometrioma removed, and it contained calcifications, and thank GOD, there was no Cancer.

I got my biopsy results back today----negative!  Despite calcifications, tonsil cancer AND family history. They took seven samples so I should be assured they didn't miss anything, right? After the FNA biopsy  I lost my voice and 5 days later still have considerable pain upon swallowing. Anyone else have this?
