Subject: A biopsy question
Date: 08/01/2007

Hello!  I just received troubling ct scan results of my belly.  The doctors found many very large lymph nodes in the mesenteric region as well as a huge ovarian cyst.  The next step is a biopsy as well as a bone marrow biopsy.  My question is....have any of you had biopsies in this general area?  What is the recovery time?  Is there a hospital stay?  I am so confused and scared and just anxious to get to the bottom of all my discomfort.  You all have been such a blessing!  Thank you so much for any info you may have for me :)

many thanks

megg

Had a biopsy for a node in my neck while I was awake hahaha they didn't want to put me under cus of my breathing.... doc was like tell me if this hurts haha.. it wasn't too bad it's just a biopsy so they shoudlnt' be taking much out right? mine took no more than 30 mins and I was done gotta small scar on my neck now but yours could be completly different ...I think you will stay in the hospital either all day or they will keep you for a night just cus they will put you under anestesia and it takes a bit when they do that cus you gotta like come of your sleepiness and stuff

The bone marrow biopsy is painful but you do not need to loose work over it. I had a biopsy of a cervical node in my neck for which I was hospitalized. I don't remembe how many days. I had biopsy of my intestines which was done with a bowel resection where they took out part of my intestines, so it was a regular surgery with a biopsy included. If they can use a needle guided with x-ray to get the biopsy, it shouldn't be bad, or require hospitalization. If they have to do surgery to get to the area, then it will require a surgery and depending on how large of an incision they have to make and how deep they have to go will determine the amount of hospitalization time required and time off work required. What type of work you do would also be a factor as to when you could return to work if you require surgery for this biopsy. Hope this has been helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions. God Bless!
