Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could share with me any info they have on how long it takes too feel  benefit from the hormone replacement. I will have my scan Friday and the Dr. says I can start the replacement right after . I am really excited about this because as you all know being hypo is not fun. I don't want to get my hopes up too high and be disappointed, can anyone share with me anythinhg they know.

Thanks,

Linda

Linda:

I have been on synthroid nearly 3 weeks after being totally hypo for nearly a month.  I am feeling dramatically better now, and felt up to a nearly normal schedule after 2 weeks on synthroid.

I am not "100%" yet, but I had almost despaired of ever feeling this good again.  I am told that it can take 2 months or more to become completely balanced.

Good luck

David

Thanks Ken,

I am really nervous that I will never get back to even somewhat normal. I will continue to hang in there and hopefully I will be able to be of some encouragement to someone else as you have been for me. It sure has been a wild ride, one I don't want to take again anytime soon.

Thanks,

Linda

Boy, do I know how you're feeling.  Today is 5 weeks for me since RAI and back on hormones....and FINALLY this week I'm starting to feel "normal" again.  I too was starting to feel like I was NEVER going to feel better!  My tastebuds are even kinda-sorta starting to come back to life.  This mornings follow-up appt. with the doc was all good news and I can finally put my "wild ride" behind me!  Good Luck to you!

Thanks Sue,

When you say five weeks does that mean it was a gradual up hill climb or an all at once, WOW! I feel normal again? I'm  just trying to keep the humor and not get too crazy if it's not like next week that I notice something. When did you lose the taste bud thing? I am just starting to lose it a bit and it's been since Monday for the RAI, I could stand to go a while without food tasting good, my face, hands, and stomach sure have paid the price, some mornings I have slits for eyes. Oh well, if you get a chance to answer back ,I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Linda

Hi again!  It was definitely an uphill kind of thing.  I started out 2 days after RAI on synthroid and a little cytomel as a jump start and started to feel much better, as in more comfortable,  within a couple of days of that.  Swelling went down, aches and pains and muscles cramps went away, started sleeping better.  Not to be confused with "back to normal" though.  Sense of taste disappeared about 5 or 6 days after RAI and I think might actually be coming back to life just today....I think I could actually taste my banana with breakfast this morning!  I was kind of thinking the loss of taste might be OK if it lasted until around Thanksgiving...the one good thing about this whole experience for me has been a loss of about 15lbs....ten more would be good!   :O)      SUE
