Hi Colleen -

My first go round with chemo I was on Carboplatin and taxol. Did 6 treatments of 1 every 21 days. When I relapsed - I went on tamoxifen for about 9 months. Cancer had returned in abdominal  lymph nodes and we watched them while on the tamoxifen. When they started to progress last Sept. I went on Carboplatin and Gemzar. During the 2nd or 3rd treatment I had a very bad reaction to the carbo. They kept me on the Gemzar alone. There was no progression until recently. I had the PET which confirmed my suspicions, and then went right onto the Hycamtin. Throughout all of the treatments they gave me an IV of Kytril and Decodron to minimize side effects. The Hycamtin is a 21 day regimen also. The first week I get treatment Tues thru Fri. Tues Wed & Thurs I get the Kytril & Decodron then on Fri they give me some heavy duty  anti-nausea with the decodron. I'm sorry but I forgot the name of it. I will let you know when I find out. Other than that I really only take Coumadin every day and that is because in Dec. I had a collapsed lung with a pulminary embolism. I do have anti nausea pills (which I haven't needed yet) sleeping pills (which I do not take) and Vicodin & Percocet for pain (which I really don't take either). Just starting to get some pain, but doc says it is probably the chemo working  on the tumors as pain is exactly where the largest and most of them are. So far so good. I would compare the Hycamtin side effects to the carbo & taxol (except I still have  hair!)

How are you doing with everything?? Hang in there - you sound like a strong lady, so be tough. Prayers & hugs to you.

Diane T.
