Subject: Question about pain following ablation
Date: 08/04/2007
I had my ablation on June 20. For the last couple days, I have had some pain in my thyroid area. Could the RAI still be working? It isn't something that really hurts at all but makes me wonder what may be going on. Has anyone had this happen? Thanks.

The RAI is probalby still working. I had mine the first week in June and my endo told me last week it was still working to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue. Sometimes I feel a stinging or a short slightly sharp pain in the area where my thyroid was. I think I recall reading that for several months after surgery to expect to have these sensations and they are caused when the nerves that were cut in surgery began to regain feeling.

Endo wanted 200, radiologist said that would cause severe pain and swelling, so insteadI had 111 RAI given on Aug 2. Go back for whole body scan on Aug 14. Right thyroid removed 1986, been on suppression all this time. Tg started to climb. Tyrogen injections given prior to RAI pill. Since I had a remaining lobe, was on Levoxyl, decision was okay with me, as my remaining lobe would be killed on either dose. Now pain following ablation. Unbelievable pain and swelling. Today is the 6th of Aug and it's still causing severe pain. He told me it should be better in 14 days. Good luck. Also, for the chats who said they were sent home; me too. Couldn't be closer to ANYONE than 15 feet away. No child contact for 48 hours. No pregnancy for 6 mos. You all were right. Insurance driven.
