My son had a TT in Dec. and numerous lymph nodes removed. RAI in March and again today. I just want all those who are miserable going hypothyroid to know that you can get your bloodwork done to test your levels prior to dates scheduled by your physician if you believe that your levels are high enough to be scanned.. After being off Synthroid the first time for 6 weeks, my son's TSH was 167. This time to ease the discomfort, he was put on a regimen of taking Synthroid MWF for 6 weeks. 10 days into the regimen, he felt lousy so I sent him for his bloodwork 3 weeks earlier than scheduled. His level was 41.9. You have to be 30+ for the cancer search. I advanced his scan date immmediately. Today is 8/6, and he wasn't even scheduled for a scan until 8/27. He would have been an absolute mess again if we had waited. I realize that some people take longer to get hypothyroid but if you think that a level of 30 is a possibilty based on how you feel, why not prevent the hardship and find out your levels? I took the matter into my own hands this time and am thrilled with the outcome. He got a clean scan today!
You deserve a pat on the back for your quick action. That's good when people take charge in the situation. A good support system is the best thing out there. For me, it's my husband who helps me get things done when I'm under the weather. He knew something was wrong with me before I had my second surgery almost a year ago.
CONGRATULATIONS !!!!! to your son for a clean scan. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery. Take Care & God Bless.
