Can anyone tell me how soon a patient is allowed to take their thyroid again? Also, do the endos allow a patient to take Levoxyl? Or do they insist on Synthroid?

Hi.  I started taking my levoxyl again 72 hours after my ablation. My Endocrinologist insists that I take Levoxyl only, no off brands.

Thanks. You made my day. I used to HAVE to take Synthroid endos orders, even on the smallest dose for supression I always felt hypo, rapid heartbeats, mainly lousy. dr. I used to go to changed me Armour (has T3 and T4) and I felt better. Finally new family dr changed me to Levoxyl in 12/06. I felt the best since thyroid problems started. Did you have total thyroidectomy before ablation?

Hi.  Yes, I had a TT on April 11, 2007.  I then had my ablation in June. I am currently cancer free.  I still have to have my labs done every 6 weeks to make sure the Levoxyl is working and also have whole body scans done twice a year to make sure it hasn't come back.  I am 36 years old, I have an 11 year old son and my husband has been very supportive through the whole thing. I wish you well.

Pam

I am told by my endo that lev is the generic of synthroid. My doctor only lets me take synthroid because the lev is not as "consistant." And the levels will vary as opposed to synthroid.
