Surgeon

Hi, I'm from the L.A. area in California.  Can anyone refer me to a surgeon that deals a lot with thyroid cancer/disease.  Preferrably around the Long Beach area or Orange county would be okay too.

If you are willing to travel a little farther south, I highly recommend Dr. Paul Hyde who works out of Scripps in La Jolla.  He regularly performs surgeries on thyroid cancer patients and performed my surgery in early June.  He is very caring and extremely informative.  My scar looks fantastic, too!

Thank you for the name, that is a bit far for him.  We know he will have to probably go out of his insurance network, so we are trying to stay closer to home.

May I ask if you had any problems with your voice after the surgery?

I did not have any problems with my voice post-surgery.  I do know someone up in San Francisco who also went through surgery last year and did have problems with his voice after surgery.  It took almost two months before his voice was normal again.  I spoke with him the day after my surgery and, given his experience, he was surprised at how good I sounded.

Good luck with your search for a surgeon.  I know how difficult it can be to find the right doctor.
