I have been undergoing treatmeant at MGH in Boston. I was doing some research online one night and I came across this enlightening group. Ovations for the Cure. They offer any woman undergoing treatment gorgeous Stuart Weitzman slippers/shoes for free. When I spoke to them they were so passionate and really seemed to care. Every woman should check this out.

The program by Stuart Weitzman is called Happy Feet. Really, this brightened my day.

Jackie -

Thank you, thank you for sending on the website for Ovations. I am carboplatin hypersensitive and there was info there on this which I have never seen before. I have been trying other treatments without the carbo and nothing seems to be working. I printed out the info and am bringing to my doctor visit/treatment tomorrow. The timing was perfect. Again, many thanks!!

Thanks to both of you, Jackie and Diane...I too am Carboplaten resistant, and although my ONCOL told me that I couldn't use this drug again, I printed out the information on the website and will be bringing it to him on my next visit.  I wonder if this is something HE can have done in the office here, or do you have to go to Boston?

I spoke to my doctors about this also. They say it may be an option for me in the future. They have not done it themselves, but can possibly get it done here on LI or in NYC. Right now I am on Hycamtin, after being on Gemzar for almost 10 months. I also found results of a study that tested 25 women with relapsed ovarian and they used Carbo, taxol & Gemzar and had a 100% complete remission rate with the triple cocktail. I also brought this to my doctors' attention and they wan't to see the details. of course this is no good to us  if we cannot get rid of the allergy to the carbo. Docs told me it is not an easy process to go thru though, but willing to try if I can. I do not tink I will have to go to Boston. Talk to your docs about that - where do you live?

Good luck - keep fighting,

Diane

Thanks, Diane, for the information on Hycamtin.  I had not heard of this drug yet.  How are you doing on it?  Do you have any of the side effects.. hair loss, low blood count, etc.

At one point in my therapy, I was on Gemzar and Carbo, and it didn't help...drove my CA125 up even higher.  Didn't do the triple cocktail, tho. I would like to know more about the de-sensitising procedure for carbo... but, again, not sure if it's available here where I live in Northern Illinois.

Right now, I'm on Doxil, and had treatment #3 last week.  Having very difficult side effects right now, and hoping they continue to diminish with time.  I have fluid in my lung area, which is due to taking Taxotere several months back (it causes severe fluid retention), and getting that drained almost every week has taken a toll on me.  They tell me the Doxil will "take care of that", but I don't know if I can endure any more of the Doxil!

Good luck to you, dear heart, and I hope you are feeling good.

Jan - I have only done 2 Hycamitn treatments so far. The side effects seem to be similar to the Carbo and Taxol which I did in 2004. 2005 I was in remission. 2006 I did tamoxifen which  didn't help. Then started the Gemzar in 9/06. So I just started the Hycamtin (TOPOTECAN) in July. This is supposed to be for Ovarian CA that faild  1st and 2nd line treatment.

Is your hypersensivity to Carbo due too  allergy or  just that it did not work well for you?? I had an awful reaction to  it  when I went on the Gemzar with Carbo. I know Doxil has some rough side effects and there are some good sites about how to manage them on the net. Good luck to you, hang in there and keep fighting the fight.

Forgot to add- there is hair loss, and the blood counts go way down. After my first treatment I needed procrit, never happened before that quickly. The hair just came out after the first treatemnt (like it did with the taxol), but been there done that, so I was prepared.

I think I feel good, but I would just like to go back to 2003 and feel like that again! Everything is relative!!

Hi Harriet  -

How are you? I don't know why they didn't try the taxol with the Gemzar and Carbo. Moot point since I developed the allergy to Carbo. But I am printing the info on the complete remissions for my ONC. He said he hasn't heard of this. Another reason why we have to be PROACTIVE.

I haven't heard from Colleen at all. Was going to write to her and see if she started the taxol yet and how she is doing. I am also looking into going to Philly CTCA for a second opinion. Seems that I am starting to run low on options. Hycamtin is not too bad, but  it does not seem to give remissions, just stablizes. I want a remission, so I just keep looking.

Hang in there and keep feeling good!!!
