Cea Levels-Need An Opinion

Subject: CEA levels-need an opinion

I need some opinions.  When I was diagnosed, my GP ran the first CEA on me.  That was end of June '06.  At that time, my CEA was 0.5.
I had my next one done on 10/13/2006 at my onc's office and it was 1.0

I had finished radiation by then and was in between treatments at that time. Chemoradiation had finished about a month earlier and I was not on chemo at that time.

Next draw (again at onc's office) was on 2/28/2007.  In between chemo treatments and the level was 1.2.

Had surgery (transanal excision) done on 4/20 of this year. Path came back no cancer cells.

Just had my CEA drawn at GP's office last week and it is now at 1.3.

I know that under 3 for a non smoker is normal, but do I worry that it has gone up to 1.3 from 0.5?  I have my next CT scan on the 24th of this month and then see the onc and surgeon the following week.  BTW, all of my other blood work drawn last week was fantastic. My hemoglobin & hematocrit have hit 15.8 & 43.9-big increases from the last times.  Nearing the higher end of normal.
OK, should I be worried about the slight fluctuations in the CEA?
Thanks for the input.

I'm no doctor to start off with, but I am a Medical Technologist that works in a lab for an onc doctor.  If your ranges are within normal ranges it's fine.  I've heard somtimes a small increase as  yours can occur during and post treatment.  I think my doc just uses the cea for a guideline for treatment but going from a 0.5 to a 1.5 though it my seem like a jump really is a small amount.. If you level were to jump up in the highter ranges that is when to be concerned.. I have seen Ceas in the 100s to 300s range.. If your doc doesn't seem concern than I won't worry to much.  But as I say that's just my opinion.
