Subject: Enlarged lymph node in groin, do I have lypmhoma?
Date: 08/15/2007
Hi, I'm 18 years old and for about a month I have had this lump in my groin. The doctor said it was an enlarged lymph node, yet there is no infection.
To get right to the point the lump is:

Soft and mobile (as said by a doctor)
0,4 cm (confirmed with an ultrasound)
has stayed the same size
painless

I don´t have any symptoms besides the lump.

Is this a cause for worry, how long does it take for a lymph node to return to normal?

in the absence of other symptoms (wt loss, fevers, night sweats, increasing size) this is probably nothing.  Antibiotics may help in case it is an infection and ibuprofen may help the swelling.  It may be swollen for months or may never return to normal.

My doctor told me to get a blood test whenever I have time.

I notice you are nurse or a doctor. So I have another question, would the node have increased in size since I first found it if it was a lymphoma?

most likely it would continue to increase in size.  Plus you would have other symptoms.  90% of swollen lymph nodes are NOT cancer.  The blood test should provide a clue if it is something other than an infection.

I know it would continue, but how big would it be at the moment if I had lymphoma?

I too had a lymph node in my groin area, and only went because I had felt pressure on it.  My blood work was normal!  She suggested a cat scan, which led to a pet scan which led to a diagnosis of follicular lymphoma...at least stage 3 (waiting for bone marrow results).  I had NO symptoms.  I would follow through with a cat scan atleast. Even my LDH is normal.
