Hand And Foot Pain

My Dad is 78 and was diagnosed with inoperable bladder cancer (due to his breathing) in April of 2007.  He has been undergoing chemo/radiation and is experiencing severe hand and foot pain, with his hands actually turning white.  The doctors have prescribed Plavix (a blood thinner) for this and I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this type of side effect.  I was expecting neuropathy from the chemo, but not the kind of pain he is experiencing.  I would appreciate any comments or even any advice as to what else we can expect as we go through the chemo/radiation.

   Sorry to hear your Dad is going thru this. The chemo - depending on what one he is on - could cause the pain. I did cisplatin/gemzar for 4 months and the cisplatin is a tough one. I had hand and foot pain side effect - it did go away after treatments stopped. There is more info on cisplatin at bladder cancer web cafe . If you go there there is a section on chemo treatments, side effects and helps to get thru it.

I'm sorry about your Father's illness.  My Daddy passed away last year of Small Cell Lung Cancer at 75 years of age.  He would have been 76 on July 10th, 2006.  I hope, insha'allah, everything will be fine with your Father.  Don't forget to take care of yourself too.  Since my Daddy's passing I've gained over 60 pounds because I have no other outlet. He was like my twin brother.
