Well, I have some good news. Max was put under
surgery and the vet doesn't found tumors in his bladder, it was a lot
of coagulated blood in his bladder which was cleaned. They found some
little tumors on his spleen which aren't cancerous yet and hopefully
they will not.

The bad news are that his kidneys look disastrous. They are very
swollen. One of them is almost failed. Now he gets a new treatment and
next Monday they will do new blood tests and urine tests and we will
see.

Thanks to everyone who supported us in this hard moments.

I will pray to the Lord for help those furry babies and they pappies and mommies who fight this ugly disease. Never give up ! !

My 13 yr old scotty has had a "probably" diagnosis of TCC. Started in June with what I thought was a urinary infection which responded for a short time to antiboitic baytril. Again the urinating problem recurred but this time with blood. Xrays did not show any stones. Vet said ultrasound and possible biopsy could be done but a cystocopy would be best. He put her on a stonger antibiotic (can't remember the name as I am at work). I opted not to have the ultrasound or cystoscopy because in the end she is too old for any surgery and it seems to be a mute point. I did have a V-BTA test which came back positive. She went on Piroxcam on Friday and by Sunday the excessive urinating (and accidents) stopped. I really don't know what to do. I feel guilty not having more tests run, but as I've said surgery would be too hard on her.(She had surgery in March of this year for a type of melanoma on her foot (3 pea size growths) and it was VERY hard on her.) Seems like I just can't stop crying because she doesn't even act sick. Guess I just wanted to share my pain. Thanks for listening,

My dog Abbey, a West Highland Terrier is 11 1/2 years old and more than likely has Bladder cancer.  She was on an antibiotic for two weeks, which helped.  However, she continued to take quite awhile to urinate.  She has had X Rays, which did not show anything.  So we then did an ultrasound, which showed a thickening in the bladder area and possible tumor. Surgery was not an option.  Our vet has started her on Piroxicam, and 20mg of pepcid.  Also, I have been giving her 2 Vitamin C pills a day (500mg).  Originally, I believed she must have bladder stones..so had her on a diet of white potatoes, sweet potatoes, and chicken.  It sounds like I need to take her off the potatoes..after what I have been reading.  Abbey has been an excellent pet and friend, and it is very sad news for me.  She still eats very well, and plays with us .The information I have read has been helpful.

My only other post was last April 5th, and we had just found out our
Westie sweetheart had bladder cancer ... after 6 months (and 11 days)
of Piroxicam, Sucralfate, and Baytril as needed ... my daughter and I
made the heart-breaking decision it was time. Zoe was a trooper through
all the months of meds, loved her cottage cheese and flax oil
concoction,  but suddenly (or so it seemed) this week she took a turn
for the worse and was simply not able to pee at all any more ... but oh
how she would try. A couple of nights ago the shivers and panting
started, and our once totally independent but tender hearted girl
wouldn't leave my side, couldn't get comfortable laying down, and
chasing after her ball or 'snock' suddenly was more effort than she
could muster. A new ultrasound check showed the tumor had invaded her
urethra making it nearly impossible for any urine to be released and
her bladder was HUGELY engorged. The offer was made and I requested our
vet drain Zoe's bladder, knowingly full well it was a short term fix -
but my daughter was on her way home for the weekend and after all Zoe
was her dog ... I wanted her to be able to spend time with her, and to
be honest I just wasn't quite ready. Today was a return trip to the vet
for another ultrasound check, but we already knew what it would show
... the signs were all there. We went prepared having made the
heartbreaking decision not to put her through anymore pain or
procedures, and even through our tears know in our hearts it was the
right thing to do. Our other 2 dogs (including Zoe's 12 1/2 yr old
brother) also were along, and while Maggie was anxious and didn't know
what was happening, Barks lay down next to Zoe with his head right next
to hers just as they had slept so many years. First was the sedative,
and we snuggled her in our laps wrapped in her favorite blanket all the
while whispering in her ear what a good sweet girl she was, and thanked
her for 10 1/2  yrs of unconditional love, the joy of hearing her
"roo-roo!" whenever she was excited, and wished her no more pain as she
drifted off to sleep.

Love you forever Zoe girl ...

I have just put my beloved sheltie, Vicki, to sleep.  I have known she had a bladder tumor since April.  Things have not been good the last two days.  She stopped eating and I knew it was time.  My heart is breaking.

Greetings everyone.

Our 11-YO Shetland Sheepdog was diagnosed with TCC day before yesterday. It took us this long to get over the initial shock so we could pull ourselves together to respond.

This forum has been a God-send . . . and I sincerely thank everyone for their heart-felt responses.

We, like most everyone here, have opted to bypass the chemo and she is not a candidate for surgery. So, I plan on developing a program and will outline it here.

Wish us the best.

Good luck ! ! I'm praying for your baby.  We also used Graviola and 4life Transfer Factor Plus. I don't know if they healped but we used them. Good luck again.

Here are out stats and our program.
Our baby is an 11year-old Shetland Sheepdog, spayed female, quite overweight @ 32 pounds. She has only minimal arthritic changes and is fully ambulatory, except that she self-restricted climbing of stairs/jumping/etc. some time ago.
Her primary symptoms began as unproductive coughing and what we thought was an unrelated bladder infection. She does have a minor heart murmur and we thought the cough was related to that. A visit to a vet cardiologist ruled this out, which sent us to an internist. While checking out Chloe's liver and lungs, the doctor made the decision to go lower down with the ultrasound and discovered a small mass in her bladder, quite by accident. Biopsy confirmed TCC only last week.
To begin, I will outline what we're presently doing.
[1] Our vet is prescribing piroxicam, specially formulated for her body weight.
[2] We are eliminating carbs from her diet and adding raw, natural foods via http://www.darwinspet.com/, as we live in the Seattle area and they're close by. They do ship anywhere in the lower 48 states.
[3] Graviola, 25 drops morning and evening via http://wolfberries.com/Graviola.html.
[4] A cranberry - slash - echinacea - slash - other bladder support nutrients via http://www.petnutritionproducts.com/palatechcranberryplusfor Giving quart-tabws morning and evening.
[5] We have been also giving her essential Omega fatty acits for her skin and coat for some time, one tablespoon morning and evening, via http://www.jbpet.com/Linatone,1929.html.
That's it, other than lots and lots and lots of TLC.
Both Chloe and our Lab absolutely LOVE the new food!! Wow! Chloe especially "gobbles" it down. And I do expect her to lose weight with this as she's in essence on the K9 equivalent of The Adkin's Diet. She is also taking all meds/nutritional supports without issue.
Of note, she's only been on this regimen for three days now and she acts like she feels better. Of course, she has her good days and her bad ones. We all know what her bad days are like, so this may just be wishful thinking on our part. Sure hope not.
Will write as things progress.

I see so many errors in that post it's not even funny. And I can't find an edit button.

She's 23 pounds, not 32. The rest are typos.
