Numb Feet

I am now 3 months from my last treatment of chemo and 2 from my last radiation, i have noticed that the bottom of my feet are becoming knumb. has anyone ever exsperenced this, Both ono, and rad Dr says its not due to Radiation or chemo, to long of a time span, Any info?

It does seem unusual that you'd get neuropathy from chemo 3 months after completing it.  If I were you I'd be asking for a referral to check out the cause----numb feet are not easy to live with--can cause balance problems, difficulty in moving/walking, not to mention inability to feel injury.  Are you diabetic?  That could be a cause.

Don't delay in checking this out.  It's easier to manage if you know the cause.

 

My husband, age 52, had six months of chemo with cisplatin/gemzar.  His feet and lower legs remain numb most all the time.  He finished chemo in 12/06.  The doctors doubt he will regain much feeling if he hasn't yet.  Hope you have better luck.  Best wishes in your battle!!

The  soles of my feet are numb after a month of not bing on chemo.   I was told that it would eventually go away.

Joe,  My Ono Dr. also told me the numb feeling in both feet was normal after chemo treatments. I completed my chemo in June 07 and rad treatments in Aug 07. Since then both soles of the feet are numb and in the past two weeks the toe nails are discolored as if they were smashed. Not painful but an odd feeling all the time. I have a follow up visit in late Nov. and I'll let you know what they tell me. Have you followed up with your Dr. ?

Hi, I left a message a couple of weeks ago on the Side Effects messageboards titled "Periferal Neuropothy-feet pain."  I had breast cancer stage 2 and a lumpectomy.  I started getting numb feet while getting the last few infusions of Taxol in Nov/Dec of 2006..  Then during the 5 weeks of radiation in Jan/Feb this year, I had really strange feelings like I was walking on pebbles!  I take 600 mg of Neurontin (Gabapentin) 3xday, and I am now starting a regimine of  Nortriptelyne at bedtime.  The pebble feeling disappeared, but my toes and the bottom of my feet are still numb... this is due to nerve damage from the chemo drugs.  It affects my balance, and there is frequent needle-stabs to my toes. I don't think the Neurontin did much of anything, but the Nortriptelyne seems to be decreasing the stabbing pains.  The numbness persists and it may be forever.  I went to a neurologist who perscribed the Nortriptelyne... the oncologist perscribed the Neurontin. I am scheduled for some nerve testing...EMG and other things. And am hoping we can determine the amount of damage and the prognosis.  I have more confidence in the neurologist than in my oncologist on this matter. You didn't give much info on your cancer or treatment, but good luck. Jody

I finished chemo in June 2006 for ovarian cancer. I was given Taxol and Carboplatin. The bottom of my feet and toes are still numb. I had gone to a neurologist in Dec '06 who put me on Lyrica. It did nothing. The oncologist had put me on Neurontin but it did nothing as well. I've been told by both and a podiatrist it's just something I'll have to learn to live with. The stabbing pains did go away. Vicki
