We're preparing for a second scan. My husband had a TT in July '06 for well-differentiated papillary tc. He is 34, but he's had a hoarse voice since he was about 19. When they did the surgery, they discovered that the cancer had cut off the blood flow to the laryngeal nerve and that's why he'd had a paralyzed larynx. So, of course, since he's had it for so long, his first scan did show metastasis to his lungs - which bumped him to Stage II. He's got a CT scan this week, and we start the LID on Oct. 1 for a scan mid-month sometime. I am so very nervous about it all. I've had to stop looking at statistics now that we now it has metastasized. He seems to just ignore it all until he can't. Maybe that's the only way he copes? I feel like we're possibly being robbed of our "golden years." And insurance is killing us. He works for his uncle, and there is no group insurance so we have to pay for our own. Does anyone have any insurance tips for us? Is it better to separate his coverage from the family coverage? Any good companies? Or do we just get screwed because this is a cancer that never really goes away? (yearly scans, meds, etc.)
I guess I just needed some place to talk about all this...so thanks for being here!
