My husband had the max dose of 200 (um, I'm forgetting the units!) back in Oct of 2006.  His doctor told him that they have since changed the max dose at this hospital to 100!  Why do you think that is, and what side effects might the 200 have had on him?   What doses did you have?  It probably is good that he was able to have such a strong dose though since they did find cancer in his lungs as well.  We're prepping for his second scan, and I hate that we'll have to go through this kind of worry every year.   Reading some of the posts here have been cathartic though - thank you!

My endo is prepping me for 135 millicuries of RAI, another doctor said I should have about 150 and yet another facility (cancer center) said that they would use 175 possibly 200 because I have an aggressive variant of papillary TC and a positive lymph node, though it is small, in my neck.  I understand if there is mets a higher dose is needed as in your husband's case.  As far as adverse effects down the road.  I've been told there is always a possibility of that occurring but it is a low occurrence (I hope they're correct as well).  I've been told radiation is radiation that you have to way the benefits vs. the risk.  Hope this helps!

I just had over 200 of RAI in March and my cheeks swelled up like a chipmunk but was not painful.  This lasted two days. Now 6 months later, they are swelling up again whenever I salivate.  At first, it was painful, but now soreness has become tenderness.  This is supposedly normal. Otherwise, there were no major symptoms, but the whole ordeal has been very tiresome. After surgery, and increased levoxyl, and radiation treaments, it seems odd that I felt okay before all this began, and I had cancer.  You can't see it or feel it, but it is there.
