dad, who has colon cancer..and so far since early July..has only had 3 chemo treatments.. just found out today, they are chaning that routine to be every 3 weeks instead of 2..   His darn white cell count won't allow him to have chemo.  He also found out, for the duration on this chem..(6 months, 12 treatments)..he has to do shots.

Feeling sad.. Has anyone heard of treatments every 3 weeks?..

 Thanks, Christine..

Hi - My brother in law just started cpt 11 and avastin for the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma (brain cancer grade 4).  One of the people that we have met that is also being treated was taking the treatments every 2 weeks.  So we questioned why my brother in laws treatments would be every 3.  The answer we received is that every 3 will give my brother in law some "quality" time rather than being down for the 2 weeks - also that they have not seen any greater benefit in giving the chemo every 2 weeks as opposed to giving it every 3 weeks - therefore the "new" course of treatment will be every 3 weeks.  My brother in law had the treatment a week ago and did well the first 2 days after treatment.  However, for the last 5, he is very fatigued.  He is miserable right now and I feel deeply for him.  We know that his white blood cell count is most likely at its lowest for days 6 - 10.  We are hoping that he feels better by the end of this weekend.

God Bless you - my thoughts and prayers are with you and with everyone that has been afflicted with this terrible disease.

Thanks for the tip xbrit. I had day1 of my third treatment cycle yesterday. my platelets and neutrophils are in freefall.I was taken by surprise since midway between the 1st and 2nd cycle I got my appetite and energy back and have been eating and feeling really well.  About the only advice i got was to stay away from sick people. LOL.

Thanks Barbara for the reply.. I figure, the doctors know what they are doing...so changing it to 3 weeks..could be what you say..

Very sick of hearing weekly, about someone who just found out they have cancer...or who passed away from it.  All of a sudden about 3 celebrities have died from it, this month..    Very sad indeed..  but..     Good to feel hopeful too..

My wife has colan cancer that has spread to the lymph nods. After 28 days of radiation she was put on a three week cycle of chemo. She gets Oxaliplatin, 5 FU and Avestin. She has trouble maintaining a good white blood count so she has a shot of Neulasta with her treatment.

She's in her fifth treatment cycle and the cancer is in nutral.

Anyway, my prayers are with you and your family...   Thinking good thought... Christine.

I finished chemo treatments for colon cancer this year.  My original schedule was to have them every 2 weeks for a total of 12 treatments.  At 3 different times during my treatments they had to be delayed for an extra week due to my blood counts.  I received shots (Neulasta) for my low white blood count, Aranesp for my red cell counts and the extra week allowed my low platelets to increase.  I felt better when my treatments were every 3 weeks because during the extra week off, I had more energy and generally felt better. Looking back on my experience and watching 2 friends go through the every 2 week treatments if I had to do it  over again, I would ask if it would do any harm to take treatments every 3 weeks

hello..  I just have a question I was wondering about.  I read your reply to me, and I think you said you are either done your treatments..or you soon will be done.  My dad has lost all taste in food ..(he has done 5 treatments so far).. dad says all food tastes terrible..   I was wondering, if once the treatments are all done., will he get his "taste" back?  I hope most of the side affects he has gotten, go away ..  He will be done in Feb..and we plan to go on trips etc.. I just can't wait..

Thanks.. Christine
