Does anyone in this group have any firsthand experience with Sutent and bone metasteses?  I would like to hear about them...negative or positive.  Thanks

my mom is on her 9th round of sutent. the first two-four rounds got rid of all her tissue tumors in her lungs but the ones in her c-4 neck n third right rib has just been stable the last couple of rounds.

I have one bone met on my clavicle.  Diagnosed March 20, 2007.  After almost two cycles of Sutent50mg, they thought it was a little smaller.  Definitely not bigger.  My Dr. says that if Sutent is working it will stop the progression.  I have not been given a clear answer on the real effect it has on the met.  I have searched the computer all over.  We know it destroys the blood vessels to the tumor so maybe it eventually kills it.  I am glad you asked the question.  I will be checking on the answers.

But it just seems like Sutent works better w/ tissue tumors then with bone mets. I haven't heard much results out there with the bone mets. Mostly just stability. So can Sutent do any good with bone mets?

While I know it's not for everyone, I know of a few people with bone mets who are had radiation and then go on sutent.  In fact, my family member is doing that.  The doctor did tell us with just the sutent, what you expect to see is stability.  When you add radiation, you increase the ability to shrink the tumor and/or contain it.

I have written about this before, but there are currently 2 studies in the US of radiation plus sutent.  One is being done at Mt. Sinai in New York, and the other is being done at Thomas Jefferson U. in Philadelphia.  They previously did similar studies with Nexavar at Duke and I believe University of Pittsburgh, with good results.

My family member is in the Mt. Sinai study.  That's stereotactic radiation (like gamma knife) for spine mets + sutent.

Good luck.
