Subject: Can I go on holiday
Date: 09/09/2007

I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma stage 1 in July of 2006.

I was very lucky as I noticed it very early and so it was only very thin and I was able to have it cut away. Since then I have lived very cautiously trying very hard  to get as little sun exposure as possible.

However now a family holiday has come up that was booked a few months ago I was a bit nervouse about booking it at the time but not wanting to miss out I did so. Now I am due to fly out to Tenerife on friday but I am unsure if I am making a mistake going.

Does anyone know if I should be in such a hot place. Obviously im not planning on sunbathing but I do know that even wearing factor 50 you can tan. Should I stay out of the sun altogether ? What happens if I tan slightly. Am I completly crazy going ?

I would be gratefull for any advice also if any one does still go on holiday

Thanks

Go and have fun!  Wear your sunscreen and be prepared to cover up with clothing.  Your primary was very thin and you caught it early.  No need to be paranoid, just careful.  A second primary would be rare anyway. You sound like you have common sense - good for you.  Enjoy your holiday with your family.
