Can anyone recommend a surgeon in Philadelphia, PA who performs neck dysections?  I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer which has already spread to lymph nodes and need thyroid and lymph node removal.

I am in the Philly area also and, although I didn't have a dissection for my tonsillar cancer, I received EXCELLENT care at Crozer-Chester (in Chester) with great follow-up. They are part of the Fox Chase network so they are very good. You will find the very best Drs at Fox Chase. The other best place in town is U of P. For my money though I think I would stick with Fox Chase or any part of their network since they specialize in cancer treatment and surgery.

My wife had her Thyroid removed for cancer at Delaware County Hospital and the experience wasn't that good for her. She has since switched to Jefferson and receives very good care there.

I hope this helps in some way. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you Joe.  I have also recently received the same 2 locations as referrals.

You are pretty close to NYC.  Dr. Urkin at Beth Israel is one of the best.  The procedure itself is overnight I believe, so you may want to consider the train ride.  He has a national reputation and so the biggest problem is getting in to see him.

My prayers are with you.
