Hi Tom,

My mother has a stage 3C ovarian carcinosarcoma, which is the most rare and most aggressive form of ovarian cancer.  She just finished her 3rd of (hopefully) 6 chemo treatments (ifosfomide and cysplatin) and is doing very well under the circumstances (which means she is not super sick - she suffers from nausea which is controlled with medication and exhaustion as well as some nerve pain.)  Through cancer compass, 2 women have written me that their mothers, both of whom had advanced ovarian cancers, are in remission.  I also know of a woman here in my area, who was in remission for a year, after being treated for a stage 3C ovarian cancer.  She is now undergoing more chemo for a recurrence of the cancer in her liver.  The way I am approaching this devastating disease is that until someone tells me my mother can't be in the small percentage of women that make it past 3 or 5 years, I have no reason to believe she can't beat the odds.  Best of luck to you and the woman you are concerned for.

Tom my Mary has Ovarian Carcinosarcoma and while there is no cure, she is in remission. She was dx 3C in Mar 06 had Surgey om 29th March and started cemmo in Aug. Because she was so weak they could only give her Casplatin.alone. She also had surgey for Breast Cancer. She just had her 3mh check up and everything is clear we are waitting for her CA125 test to come Back.

Hi,

I was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer (carcinosorcoma) in January 2003 when I was 41 years old.  I had a complete hysterectomy and 6 months chemo with ifosfamide and cisplatin; followed by a year of taxotere.  One month from today will have been five years ago diagnosed and still in remission!!  My original CA-125 count was 132, now down to 4.2.  The Good Lord answered many, many prayers and blessed me with complete healing. I'm sooo thankful!!  I still have children I want to see grow up.

When my wife was first treated for her ovarian cancer back in 1972, she presented with DVT and pulmonary embolism associated with her malignancy. Persistent effusion showed malignant cells on thoracentesis. This is an indication of stage IV cancer. She had a total abdominal hysterectomy and pill-dose Chlorambucil (Leukeren) treatment. She had talc placed into the lung walls for them to adhere to the lining and keep them from collapsing.

Twenty-four years later, she developed a metastatic transdiaphragmatic tumor from the original cancer with attachment to the lung and other midline structures of the chest. Parts of those structures were surgically resected. I remember the throacic surgical oncologist telling me the talc oozed down to the bottom of the cavity and was as hard as rock. She had to literally use a hammer and chisle to clean it all out.
It seems that her twenty-four year ride without any recurrence gives the University of Florida study on Talc some credence. Would she have gone twenty-four years without this talc? The fact that she took Premarin for over twenty years was probably the best indication why she ever got a recurrence.

Hi,

How is your wife doing?.  I have been diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer in Oct. last year.  I am very interested to hear that your wife has survived for so many years.  I fist became aware of problems when I became breatheless.  The doctor diagnosed plural effusions and did further tests and it was discovered that I have Ovarian cancer.  I have never heard of  talc being used.
