Pet Scan/Ct Scan

I had hurthle cell carcinoma in 1998, very small and was successful at removal.
Since december of 2004 I had a lump come up (painless) on the right side of my neck. Last Thursday I was sent in for a pet scan only. After my pet scan, they then sent me to ct and I don't know why. Is it possible something showed up? I am very worried now.

I work at a radiology facility. We have a machine that is a PET/CT scanner (a hybrid machine) which can perform both exams at the same time. However, some facilities perform the exams on separate machines.

These two tests provide slightly different information. The PET scanner usually identifies abnormal cell behavior (the injection helps highlight these areas). The CT scanner gives a more precise location of different masses, cancerous or otherwise.

Doing both the PET and CT scans give a better overall picture of what is going on. I would just call your oncologist (or whomever referred you for the scans) and discuss the results with him/her.

I live in Canada close to detriot. Can you give me any information on cancer clinics in the States that I might be able to get a PET scan done and what it might cost. I am willing to travel.
I would like to know if the chemo and radiation did any good.

not sure about any places in that area. however, if you go to www.gehealthcare.com, they have something where you can search for nearby offices that have this machine. (i don't know what other companies make this scanner, but their manufacturer's websites might have similar searches.) good luck!!

Are you or anyone else familiar with the new GE Discovery ST? It's supposed to be a combination of the CT and Pet but has a better detection rate than either of the two separately. The ST stands for "See and Treat". I was wondering if it is useful in the detection of prostate cancer.
