Velcade not working

My sister has taken one round of Velcade. She has not been able to start the second since her platelets have been too low. Last week they  gave her 2 units of blood. This week her Dr. said the velcade is not working, but they gave her a velcade treatment and are starting her on revlamid and dex. again. They are going to try this for a month and see if there are any good results. Can anyone tell me anythig about this treatment?  Is there any other treatments out there? Every time they start something new we think "this is going to work" only to get another slap in the face. Thankfully, she is taking Megase and is gaining a little weight, but I overheard the Dr. say something about cutting down on it.  I feel so helpless, as I know most of you do.  Know that I pray for everyone and their families that are dealing with this disease!!!!

There are few other chemo options. It boils down to Thalidomide, Velcade and Rev. Has she had a stem cell transplant? The other option is going alternative. There are a number of homeopathic and naturopathic protocols that show promise. My wife has been on a low dose of Thalidomide for nearly 1 year with no dex, but a very intensive regimine of alternative treatments that have kept her stable and functional with little medication side effects.

Regards,

Craig

My sister is 54 and was diagnosed 2 years ago. She has leisons from her skull to her feet. She underwent radiation for a tumer on her spine and jaw first. She had a transplant a little over a year ago She was put on thalidomide for  a few months. Was said to have been in remission for about 2 months, but in January it came back full force. They started Revlimide, but she did not respond. Velcade seems to be the same story. She has also had a rod put in her right hip and left arm. Can you give me some info. on some alternatives? t would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks......Jan

My wife is 53 and was diagnosed with myeloma 1 year ago. She also has many lesions from the skull on down. Her only treatment so far has been thalidomide. Her protein levels have not decreased or increased (remain stable to slightly decreasing), but all of her other blood data has improved to normal, including the important B2micro.

Her protocol is:

Homeopathy  - carcinosinum and heka lava

Natural - fish oil (9 grams per day), curcumin (9 grams per day; there is a new BCM-95 curcumin sold by life extensions that is the most bio-available), resvertrol, quercitin, B12, E and proteolytic enzymes (Wobenzym brand is best), liquid milk thistle. She also eats a high-alkaline diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (she is vegetarian too).

The fish oil, curcumin, proteolytic enzymes and vitamin E (and diet) in particular all reduce c-reactive proteins (CRPs) that help proliferate and protect myeloma cells. There was also an article a few days ago about a lady in the UK that kept her dog with myeloma alive using Flaxseed oil (omega 3 like fish oil) and cottage cheese and no medications. It probably controlled the CRPs.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Craig

My sister Denys just started her first cycle of Velcade.  Today was her second injection.  She already was on Revlimid and had a Stem Cell Transplant both were unsuccessful.

We will know in 19 more days if the  Velcade worked. I hate when she is on the Dex.  She acts crazy and hallucinates like you wouldn't believe. This morning she lost her balance and fell. I know it is from all the crap they have poisoned her body with.!!

Keepi ng you all in my prayers,

Susan
