All New To Me.

I just had a mole removed this week that tested positive for melanoma.  I am returning to the dermotologist in 2 weeks to clear the surrounding area.  My dermotologist said that it was not serious, level 1.  She has taken blood tests and chest xray but I don't have the results yet.  I am curious to hear points of view on this site to determine what type of doctor I should do a follow up with and what type of testing should be required?  Do I need to do more detailed testing and follow up?  Thanks for any input.

Find out the size of the melanoma.  I read a recent report that any melanoma over l mm should be followed with a sentinel node biopsy to determine if there is any lymph node involvement.  If so having a lymphadectomy increases survival by an additional 25% which is a significant benefit.  If it is smaller than l mm obtaining clear margins and follow up are usually what is indicated.

I was recently diagnosed through my dermatologist but because of the thickness he had me make an immediate appointment with an Oncologist surgeon. Maybe even though yours is not as invasive yet it would be a good idea to get a second opinion from a specialist, you can never be too careful.
