Just found out my mom has liver cancer at final stage.  It already spread to lungs and other part of the bodies.  She is having a lot of pain.  By researching, liver canser at this stage can be survive within 6 months.  I feel so hopeless, she is now in Vietnam in Cho Ray Hospital just went thru ER.  She is now admited to the hospital.  Can you believe they put her into a room with 2 patients in a bed.  What should I do now?  Do you thinkNexavar help to get her life longer?  And where should I get it?  How much does it cost???Please help and advise??

Sorry to hear about your mom.  Are you with her in Vn?  Spend alot of time with her if you can.  Yes, liver cancer is very aggressive.  Nexavar is very expensive - in thousands.  I am Asian, and I understand your situation.  Best wish to your Mom.

I am truly sorry about your mother's situation. My dear brother found peace yesterday after a valiant and courageous yearlong battle with primary liver cancer. He took Nexavar for about two months but the side effects were difficult and it did not halt progression of the disease. Even if it extended his life a little--and there is no way to know if it did--I do not believe he would accept any chemotherapy if he had it to do over again. The chemoembolization and evaluation for liver transplant he had in the first months following diagnosis were procedures he could live with. But he definitely would not have taken adriamycin and probably not Nexavar unless it would have been started earlier in his treatment. Nexavar may extend life but the quality of life while on the drug was not good for him. My brother's liver cancer was secondary to Hepatitis B. One of the greatest lessons I have learned is the importance of supporting education programs encouraging testing and vaccination for the virus. Peace be with you and with all those affected by this terrible disease.

The cost of Nexavar is aproximately 4,000 to 5000 USD per month.  My brother took Nexavar for 1 month with no improvement.  He had advanced primary liver cancer, diagnosed in July.  The tumor was 11cm on the right lobe, and few smaller ones in the left lobe.  The Nexavar side effects that he had was rash on the forehead and extreme tireness.  After 1 month, he had to stop Nexavar because bilirubin rose so rapidly (bilirubin is a sign of liver failure).

I'm really sorry to hear about your mom.  I lost my brother just 3 weeks ago, exactly 2 months after he was diagnosed.  The survivor rate for primary liver is extremely low.  You may want to consider alternative treatment.

 Take Care,

Thanks for letting me know the price, it is expensive but if it could get my mom's life longer then I'd try.  I'm sorry for your loss of your brother.  Some of my brother's friend that had that and he went to see a doctor that specialty on making medicine from some kind of plants, and he used and drank it and he's fine now.  Feel really amazing, but we'll try anything that would help my mom live longer with us.

There is a Chinese herbal tea called Sunrecome that, according to my brother's oncologist, helped one of his patients with liver cancer. It is very expensive and limited information about how it works can be found by googling Sunrecome and looking at websites, some of which are in Chinese. It appears to be more extensively used in Asia and there has been some clinical research on it in China so you might be able to get better information than we were able to find in the US.

I'm vietnamese as well.  The liver cancer that my brother in law had was so advance that the doctors give us  no option.  We tried alternative treatment (Chinese Herbal) as well since Nexavar didn't work.  But at the end, nothing really work as the disease is so advance.  I hope the alternative treatment will work on your mom.  It doens't hurt to take a chance.
