Greetings,

Wondering if anyone had any problems with dehydration while undergoing chemo and radiation for EC.  My dad can't seem to stay hydrated.  The hospital keeps having to give him fluids.

My patient needs hydration within a few days of his chemo tx of cisplatin and irinotecan. He is very energy depleted. The fluid helps a lot. He also gets a Procrit shot each week.  The Hydration includes anti-nausea med called Aloxy and is administered at the doctor's office.  I understadn that If your dad has a life port a family member can be trained to administer hydration at home.

Procrit I think is used to build the red blood cells.  I don't think it has anything to do with hydration.  My father-in-law is 81 and has esophageal cancer and also has had problems with dehydration since he started his chemo and radiation.  He is currently in the hospital getting hydrated.
