Canine bladder cancer

My baby Kobi, a 10 year old Keeshond was diagnosed with bladder cancer on September 18th.  After finding a tumor in his bladder with an ultrasound, my vet recommended surgery since the tumor was in an area of the bladder that could be operated on.

They removed a 4 cm growth and did a biopsy.  The biopsy report came back as TCC,  Stage 2, positive margines (which means they were not able to remove all of the cancer), invasion into the muscle and lymph system.  I have been devastated by this news as all of you have been.  I have been crying for days.

I am still trying to decide on what treatment to do.  My vet referred me to an oncologist who recommended chemo with Piroxicam.  I have started the Piroxicam and think I've decided against the chemo.

I am giving Pepcid AC 2 times a day and so far so good but it's only been 2 days.  I will watch and see how he does.

Kobi has been on a raw diet for a few years already although I now add an organic dry food to it and give regular dog biscuits as treats.  I am going to remove all carbs from his diet now based on everything I've read from all of you.

I will be seeing a holistic vet next week and can't wait to get him started on these remedies.  I will write back and let everyone know what the holistic vet prescribed.

They removed 35% of Kobi's bladder during the surgery which was on  September 10th. He is doing so remarkably well.  Today, he is happy, hungry, extremely playful.

Until finding this site today, I was feeling very hopeless.

Thank you all for giving me hope and sharing your stories

Robin

Hi! I too am in the same situation. My dog McDuff, a 12 year old Scottie just got diagnosed. We are trying a dual plan - chemo (just a few times)/peroxicam and holistic. Here's what my vet put him on: Echinacea Astragalus Cat's Claw Reishi & Maitake Mushrooms pau d'argo milk thistle Shark Cartilage And, when the time comes, Accupuncture. Hope this helps.
