Hello All:  Once again thanks for your very kind thoughts and prayers.  Robbie has proven to be very strong and keeps his spirits up as much as possible.  The good news was that there were no new mets and the cancerous lesions in the liver appeared to be the same size as right after the RFA.  However, his liver is enlarged and he is retaining fluid in the liver and other organs.  His legs are a little swollen.  We understand that the fluid is a result of the disease and Dr. Sur wants him to eat at least 6 times a day to put some weight on.  There is a new trial starting in about 4-6 weeks and Dr. Sur would like Robbie to be strong enough to give it a try.  We are at least thankful that there were no new mets and that the cancer has not yet grown.  Robbie is at home and our family doctor has said that he will keep him at home and will come to the house every day with palliative nursing care when that becomes necessary.  Our family doctor has treated Robbie since he was 2 years old and he said that if Robbie wants to be at home then that is where he is going to be.  We understand that there is no way to give medication to relieve the retention of fluid.  He has slept better the last couple of nights so we hope that for the next few months he will grow strong enough to have a wonderful Christmas.  He is a very strong young man and I am so proud to be his mother - he may even surprise us all and manage to still be here on March 23rd his 36th birthday.  We need to keep on being as positive as possible and continuing praying.

I sincerely hope that all is well with most of you and I pray for all who have this disease.  Hopefully someday noone else will have to face this demon.

God bless you all and many hugs for your helpfulness in getting me through this terrible time.  It is so hard to watch your child suffer and to know that you cannot do anything except listen to him, pray for him and be there to help whenever you can.  I always wonder why him and not me in fact I told him just the other day that if I was in charge he would not be this sick.  Unfortunately, I am not in charge and only God knows how long he has.  Robbie told me that Dr. Sur thought he would not last through summer of 2006 and here we are almost October 2007 so he told me that all the prayers are being answered.

God bless you all.

Lynn, Mom of Robbie

Oh Lynn,

I'm so glad you got good news and there are no new mets!!  The liver is injured from the RFA and that contributes to the fluid buildup.  They were able to drain some of the fluid from my husband's abdomen when that happened to him but he didn't have swelling in any other areas.  Did they say they couldn't give him any Lasix or other diuretic?  I look for your posts to see how things are going.  I hope he can regain some strength and participate in the new trial.  My prayers and thoughts will be with you and your family.

I haven't been on the board in over a week and am so sorry to here Robbie is struggling but glad to hear the latest news that it is not new mets.  You, Robbie and your entire family are in my continued prayers.  He certainly sounds like a fighter and if anyone can do it, he can.  He has his determination and his youth in his favor.

Love,

Debby
