Essential Thrombocytosis

I have recently been diagnosed with E.T. Not sure how concerned I should be! (In the last four years I've also dealt with breast cancer and melanoma.) I suppose I'm the most interested in hearing about symptoms from other E.T. people. I have a doctor's appointment coming up soon. I'm not sure if this is in my "head" or the symptoms are real. At times my ribs ache. My eyes burn like they are bleeding. My feet and legs feel compressed, as though they have commonly "fallen asleep." Thanks for any comments!

Hi, I too have ET. The symptoms you describe are almost exactly the same as I have gone through. The rib pain, as my Dr explained is due to very minute blockages in the small vessels that are in our bones. He assured me that they would not escape the ribs, and if they did, no harm would come. I am on 1000-1500mg Hydroxyurea, 325mg aspirin, Iron and vitamin C suppliments. The rib pain has subsided but I occasionally have problems with my toes, feet, and fingers. I guess there is not much relief for that. Be sure you have properly fitting shoes (my Dr reccomended "Diabetic" type socks). For pain I'm on Ibuprofin 180mg daily. It works fairly well. This disease is rare so some doctors don't have a lot of experience with it; reseach it yourself and learn as much as possible on your own, also go to the website www.MPD.org for information.

I am still trying to get used to the lifestyle changes so please pass on any info possible.

I have also been diagnosed with ET within the past year. I came upon the following website and have ordered (yet not yet recieved) a homeopathic remedy from: www.mobcitin.com which comes from Germany and claims to treat/cure this blood disorder. I will keep you posted as to how this works for me. In the meantime I am taking wheat grass juice almost daily 2-3 onces, and drinking freshly made organic vegitable juices, including kale and cabbage. And eating sea vegitables (seaweed). Garlic is supposedly a natural blood thinner but I wouldn't take large amounts (pills or tablets) if you are taking medication. I have experienced pressure in my legs and also have headaches almost daily. The other side effects that you mentioned, my doctor warned about (tingling feet and hands). Good luck I hope this helps.

Just for the record - the homeopathic remedies (from Germany and the US) that I tried did not work to cure or relieve the symptoms that I was having in 2007 or to date.  No new news to report other than I am still juicing and eating mainly organic, I am drug free to date which I suppose is good news but not symptom free.  My count is still 602.
