I can only hope this message gets to others out there who are fighting this diagonoses.  My 41 yr old brother was recently (9/21/07) told he had Cholongiocarcinoma.  He was told he was a T-4, not resectable, tumor over 15 cm. The tumor has encased most of his bile system & portal veins.  Stent inserted. Alot of jaundice, no itching, some complaints of "feeling hot". He has a family of three, youngest 9 months.  What can we do to help him. They did 3 byopsies with no definite tissue to confirm the cancer.  He is scheduled for a 4th one this week. They are going to do small incisions on the liver in hopes of getting a confirmed tissue.  How can they diagnose this cancer with out an actual tissue that proves it's cancer.  Please help us...thank you.  He is being treated at the San Francisco Hospital, we are from Sacramento, California

I don't have any answers but this sound so similar to what is happening to my mother.  She is 60 and was told on the 19th that they thought she had cancer.  They confirmed it Friday but can not tell us where it is coming from or what type it is.  She has had no symptoms except jaundice.   We are going to see if we can find a second opinion.  I will post back if we find out anything that could help you.  Good luck.

Today, my brother met with the treatment dr to discuss what is the best treatment option for his cancer.  Unbelievably, the doctors (there were three in the room) told us they didn't think this was cancer, but rather a rare form of Fibrosis that was growing unsually and was encasing his bile system.  Today they totally disagreed with the doctor who gave us the diagnoses of Cholongiocarcinoma.  They didn't feel it was aggressive at all.  However, they said we shouldn't be estatic because we may have had more options if this did turn out to be malignant.  We are so frustrated.  Our hands are tied until Wednesday 10/3 when the 4th biopsy will be done.  According to today's doctor we must be able to confirm or eliminate cancer before any treatment can be discussed.  The doctor today told my brother he was just too healthy to have cancer.  He doesn't have the itching or fevers that are typically involved with Cholongio.  His appetite is fairly good, he has only lost two lbs since this ordeal began months ago.  According to this doctor the jaundice came from the bile blockage from the fibrosis, and the stent that was put in two weeks ago will help curb the jaundice and increase bile flow.  We'll just have to wait until the laproscopy (inciscions) biopsy this week.......

Just wondering what the outcome was with the situation?  Any definitive answers?

Unfortunately, my brother passed away on 1/23/08 from a primary cancer of liver that spread to his lungs & spine. To this day, I can't wrap my mind around what happened. How can someone be told the cancer is aggressive with six months to live that nothing can be done, then to be told two weeks later, that it's not cancerous by another doctor with in same hospital (San Francisco) but rather a mass.......a few weeks later told it's actually a low grade cancer that can be resected out of the liver, but only to find out (11/28/07) the other side of the liver is infected with 5 smaller tumors not seen on the scans. They opened him up only to close him right back up. He was released from the hospital in S.F on 12/20/07 (those weeks were hell for him & us). He spent 11 days at home with his three small kids only to enter the hospital in Sacramento where we are from to be told cancer turned aggressive & spread. We were devastated. Told the operation (when the air hits cancer, it spreads like wild fire) most likely caused aggression of cancer. His liver & kindneys failed him, his stomach litterally dissolved, releasing through his bottom. It's a devastating disease that doesn't discriminate........the old, young, any race.........We simply can't understand this nightmare......
