Any suggestions for someone who can only tolerate a teaspoon or so of food after having a Whipple procedure?  My mom--74 yrs old--is practically fading away as we wring our hands and try to get her to eat a little and take a few steps.  I'd really appreciate any suggestions--the metallic taste in her mouth and the nausea are a double whammy.
Thanks so much!

My Dad had a Whipple and he needed to have a jube tube for several weeks to obtain adequate nutrients since he couldn't eat on his own at this time. It gets MUCH better for most so I hope by now this is the case for your mom.

You didn't say how long it's been since your mother's Whipple surgery but I wonder if her stomach is not emptying properly.  It is possible for the Dr. to insert a nose tube and pump the contents out.  My husband also had duodenal cancer and had a Whipple.  He had stomach emptying problems in the hospital but it got better with time.

Good luck!

JP
