I am from Bombay. My 5-year-old son was detected with ALL two months back. He has completed his first cycle of chemotherapy and is in his second cycle now.

We live pretty normally at home with him. I also have a 3-year-old son. They play at home. However, I do not allow him to go out and play as there are chances of him getting infection. During the first cycle of chemo he had side effects but that went away on its own.

I and my wife have a positive attitude. That helps us deal with our child. As you know, chemo is a painful process, especially for a child, we have explained to him that he has to undergo this as he is suffering from a disease for which he has to take treatment. Like when "pappa's car breaks down, we have to send the car to the garage for check-up."

wish you all the best.

I can understand the agony you are going through. My son had severe stomach pain during the first chemo. I am not a doctor, and so i won't recommend a medicine. However, my wife used to just apply some oil (coconut oil) or some lotion on his stomach and gently, very gently massage it. It should be greasy so that you could move your hand. The movement of hand definately reduces the pain in the child, more so that of the mother. So you could apply some oil on your child's knee and gently massage the knee. I hope this should work. You know, pain is going to be there as it is a side effect of such powerful doses of medicines. But we should try to make the child comfortable and less painful. Try telling some stories to your child. This really helps. When the brain is diverted to another topic, pain will be less.

I was told by my doctor that 3rd chemo is painful. Fourth would be less. So don't worry. Everything should be all right.

Wish your child a speedy recovery.

Thanks for your encouraging words. She is in the third phase of treatment so its a side effect. So how is your son doing? She is also having an allergy to the medication she is recieving but God knows best. I am praying so she will be okay. Take care. Until I hear fom you. Thanks again for replying.
