Subject: Question on Med dose's?
Date: 10/07/2007

Hi,

I was taking synthroid 175 per day,  my last blood test showed my TSH was 0.09, I guess that's low?  Well anyway now the Dr. has me taking Cytomel on Mon, Wed, & Fri and on those days I am taking half of the 175 synthroid and a whole synthroid on the off days. Does this sound normal? Well if anyone has an answer, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks, Linda

0.09 TSH it meams you are taking too much syntroid. Since syntroid is not a good replacement by itself, becaouse it is not well absorbed in your body, and it can easily be that despite the low TSH level you might still have a slow working thyroid. it is a good idea to add Cytomel becouse it is absorbed better in your system.

But let me ask you a question: did you discuss this results with your doctor? Because if you did not something is wrong in your patient-doctor relationship.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply. I did discuss this with my Dr., but he went on vacation right after our phone conversation and he will be gone for two weeks, I should have asked more questions when I had him on the phone, but of course I think of everything to ask after the call and after he's gone. I had thyroid cancer so I have no thyroid at all, you said 0.09 means I have too much synthroid so that is making me hypothyroid? I am trying to research and get educated on all this. Thanks Again, Linda

If you have had papillary cell thyroid cancer, you want to keep your TSH between 0.1 and 0.5. A low TSH suppresses the growth of thyroid cancer cells. These levels keep you slightly hyperthyroid.

In April I had a total thyoridectomy followed by RAI for papillary cell thyroid cancer. My last TSH [September] was 0.1.

Hope this is helpful.

My endo keeps my hyper (post TT for papillary) and is happy with my TSH below .1.  It is usually around .06, and as long as I'm feeling fine, he's happy.  I even got pregnant with that TSH!
