Subject: 26 and Scared Need Someone to Talk to

I am 26 years old and had a partial Hysterectomy about a month after I turned 24. From about 3 months post op to current I suffer from severe lower abdominal pain and cramping. I have no medical insurance and I saw a doctor about a year ago that said my chances of ovarian cancer are great but he could do nothing about it due to lack of insurance. I am losing my hair. Putting on weight and then losing it for no know reason and I have not had a solid Bowel movement in 18 months. I am terrified. Does anyone have any suggestions????

You need to go back to the doctor who did the hysterectomy
and explain the problems you are having. If you do not have
medical insurance, you might be able to negotiate a lower fee
with the doctor. Your health is important, so make this a
priority and spend some money out of your own pocket if you
need to, so that you can at least have a consultation.

If your symptoms are urgent and they sound like they are, you
could try going to an emergency room where they are obligated
to treat you whether you have insurance or not.

I do not know why anyone would think a 24 year old is at risk
for ovarian cancer as it is extremely rare at your age. I don't
know what the circumstances of your hysterectomy were, but I
would consider contacting the Cancer Treatment Centers of
America and talk to someone about your situation. You could
also call the American Cancer society for a referral. I would not
go back to the doc who said you are at risk of ovarian cancer
and wouldn't help you, instead go to a new gynecologist or the
one who originally did your surgery. Find the money somehow
to at least have a consultation.

You may go on Public Aid or Enter a hospital in your area for help that cares for those with no funds. Call your nearest state or town Welfare Agency and get help immediately. I wish you good luck.
