Hi, gang:  Hope all of you are feeling better every day.

I haven't posted for a while as my husband John has continued to improve.  He is on his fourth round of Sutent now and has shown remarkable shrinkage in his mets to his lung since he began the drug.

One problem that he has found this week is that his cholesterol has shot up to 450 and triglycerides to 2200.  I spoke to the oncologist who said that it had no relation to the Sutent, but his GP and I can't seem to believe the escalation in such a short period of time.

He has never had a cholesterol or triglyceride elevation prior and we both get checked every six months or so as part of routine evaluation. Our diets are optimal and we both exercise as we should.

Anyone else had this problem while on Sutent?

Thanks for the responses and stay positive.  Dianna B

I have been taking Sutent for 1 1/2 years. I take Norvasc to control my BP. Also take synthriod for my thyroid. Both are under control.

Just recently I started taking medication for high cholestorol. Mine too shot up to 450. My Oncologist also said that the Sutent was not the cause. I have never suffered from high chol. before.

FAITH, PRAYER  and my belief in JESUS CHRIST have helped me survive this disease. I have renal cell. Lost a kidney, have had a brain tumor and still have cancer in both lungs. Bu the Sutent is working. I pray your husband does as well as I have. Trust in the LORD to be his HEALER.

I thank God for your posting.  I too believe that Jesus is our Healer and I believe that He recently led us to a wonderful doctor for a 2nd opinion who uses the CyberKnife here in the Fort Worth area for inoperable tumors anywhere in the body.  (Original RCC 7/2001)  My husband is 56 and had two RCC brain mets diagnosed on 9/11/2007, basically the doctor told him he had 3 weeks to live unless he did whole brain radiation.  We decided to get a 2nd opinion as we were being driven to make a quick decsion in fear.   The most dangerous one was in the pons area of brain where all of life comes together.  This wonderful doctor gave us hope and said he had treated RCC before in the brain and that he had never missed.  The first was zapped on 9/25 and the 2nd was zapped on 10/2.  Unbelievably easy procedure.   We will get an MRI in 2 to 3 months to see if it worked but my husband already feels much better.  The Lord put an oncology nurse in my ladies prayer group 1 year ago.  She was the nurse angel that introduced us to the CyberKnife doctor, Dr. LaNasa at The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Fort Worth has a wonderful bedside manner.  He saw us immediately and brought us such peace that we just knew He was an answer to our prayers.  The dexamethsone has been really hard and the radiation has caused fatigue but both saved his life.  We start SUTENT next week for mets in his pancreas.  This new drug also seems to be an answer to prayer as it is much less toxic than Interferon and Interlukin.  Keep praying, we know He knows all about this and is able to do more than we can even think to ask.  Susan

Hi Dianna,

I have just started with Sutent and quite honestly am nervous about everything. Sorry i dont have any information regarding the chol. or tri's but i was hoping you could answer a couple of questions for me.

How old is your husband?

How long has he been taking sutent?

When did you start seeing results?

Did he have kidney problems?

I hope he continues to improve,

Regards,

Brent
