Prince is our 14 ½ year old Dal. He is wonderful—sweet natured and a natural couch potato. He was diagnosed last week with Bladder Cancer. We, like many of you, thought he JUST had a bladder/kidney infection and treated it as such all summer. He would seem to get better, symptom-wise at least, then go down again. He, unlike some dogs who have problems urinating, is incontinent. We are dealing with it and are planning on new carpet---whenever.

Prince is on Piroxicam, Ciproflaoxacn, and Tramadol. He is also is diabetic on 27 units 2X a day. He has also had cataract surgery at U.T. (a wonderful facility, by the way). Our doctor does not recommend any invasive treatments because of Prince’s medical history, so we are trying to keep him comfortable and praying for the best.

He has been on the Piroxicam about a week now, and is already having tarry stools and refusing to eat. I am not going to give him anymore doses until I can talk to the doctor on Monday.

I just found this web site, and while I have read it through my tears, it also gives me hope. Just today my grown son told me I was just going to “have to step up to the plate, and have Prince put to sleep.” Your posts give me hope that he can have a quality of life, for a while anyway. If anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with incontinency, please let me know.

Peace, B.

You need to read the different posts--there is one entitled incontinent dogs with tcc (or some such title) and then go through the very long (over 500 entries) thread on canine tcc.

Several people give suggestions in fashioning doggie diapers that really seemed to work for them and make everyone more comfortable.

Good luck to you.

HI...I hope you haven't given up yet.. Daisy my dog was at her worst last weekend only urinating dribbles of blood..not eating,no interest in anything..it was soooo sad.  I called a different vet to get their opinion and without seeing her they suggested the past antibiotic we had her on a few months back..AFTER 4 pills she started signs of eating and drinking water a lilttle..a day later NO more blood and now she is peeing A LOT as if she wasn't sick !  Amazing !  The anitbiotic is caled SULFA - TRIMITHARPRIM ( not exactly on spelling) try it and a good diet AND "Expecta" Omega  pills at Walmart..not sure how big your dog is but mine takes two each morning and two atnight..it is ananit-cancer omega/natural oil..you cantake it too.

Good luck..Daisy was diagnosed ONE year ago and Thank god whatever we are doing is helping her!!!
