Subject: Treatment For Paratenial and Stomach Cancer

I have been diagnosed with cancer of "unknown origin" I am Stage 4 with paratenial and stomach involvement. I have gone through 3 chemo treatments using Avastin, 5FU and Oxyplatin (sp?). I have a blockage that they cannot really diagnose that does not allow me to have a bowel movement. The chemo helped reduce the ascites in the paratenial area. I have had multi CT scans, a laproscopy, a peg tube for drainage only. The doctors that were treating me said that if it wasn't improving my quality of life we should discontinue the chemo.

I did get a first opinion and moved to a different dr for a second opinion at what is considered one of the premier cancer hospitals. First opinion was about the same recommendations; I think one drug was different.

What do I do now? I really am mot ready to give up.

Katherine,

How are you doing?

I think there are other options out there for you to look into.

Dr. Sugarbaker in DC, Dr. Loggie in Nebraska, Bartlett in Pittsburg and Sardi in Baltimore to name a few.

Let me know how you are doing.

Subject: a Friend With Same Cancer
Date: 03/08/2006
Hello, KB. I just googled Paratoneal/stomach cancer and found your post. My friend has the same cancer. She is 51 years old and married with a son. Your description of your cancer sounds incredibly similar. She has been to Omaha for a 3rd opinion. She is also blocked. Has a drain etc. She can drink but not eat. They have finally decided to stop all treatment. She is however alive and thriving emotionally and I am wondering if the two of you might enjoy corresponding. If you are interested, email me and tell me more about yourself and I will bounce it off her. She is a wonderful person. Maybe sharing with someone who is so close to your experiences will help you both.

take care of yourself.
