Linitis Plastica

With Local Extension Like you discuss it is not really Linitis Plasitica which is usually confined to the the wall of the stomach and makes the tissue "more rigid, less flexible" as the name implies.

She should have chemo Radiation and then possibly reconsider surgery if she has a good Response.  The treatments are rougher on the patient since the stomach has to be treated and she should probabley be set up for enteral feedings and given regular antiemetics before chemo and the radiation treatments.

Linitis Plastica usually doe better if surgically removed because it is sometimes more localized.

My 64 year old father also has linitis plastica (finally diagnosed in early Nov.) which has spread to the abdominal wall, like your mother's case.  We just had a j-tube inserted to help put weight on him and he is starting chemo (ECF) next week.  I know the prognosis is not good but we are trying to buy some time and praying that the chemo will at least halt the cancer spreading.  If your mom can still take food orally, I would recommend carrot juice and other greens juiced to create an alkaline environment in the stomach. Unfortunately, my dad can no longer take anything orally.  He also has a narcotic patch to help with the pain.  My prayers are with you as it is very tough to see a loved one endure this horrible disease.  If you have time, please let me know how your mom is doing and if you have discovered anything that seems to help her.  Take care.
