Subject: Mom's Cancer is Back and has spread/Suggestions?

Hi,

My Mom's cancer is back and has spread outside the abdomon, Pelvis, Liver and touching the lungs. The Oncologist has refused any more chemotherapy because it made her very sick and did not have an affect on her cancer. Mom is in the Hospital with a Septic infection most likely from her peg tube. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Tom

Tom:  So sorry to hear that your mother is not doing well.  I am beginning chemo and having a difficult time.  I struggle with infection and have an open incision from my operation.  I spent a month in the hospital with MRSA so am aware of the complications.  Please continue to be supportive of your Mom.  Love and prayers are great healers.  Take care.  Toni

Hi there.  My mom was dx stage 4 ovarian cancer in March 2006.  She is now on her 3rd chemo regiment and has never been in remission.  Her cancer had also spread into the mediastinum area (near lungs), and she underwent surgery with a thoracic surgeon in August 07 and had the 3 small tumors in that area removed.  My point is, there are many different chemo drugs out there, and we keep trying to find one that will work, and that my mom can tolerate.  Just because your mom hasn't had a good response to one or more, doesn't mean her doctor should decide to stop all chemo.  There are many, many, women who have lived with this disease for years and have been on chemo for years.  She may never get a remission, but it is still possible to control it for awhile.  Has her doctor tried Avastin?  What chemos has she been on?  Have you ever had a second opinion?  Is her doctor a gynelogical oncologist?

I would'nt give up!  Not unless she wants to that is.

Best of luck.

Kristine

My Mom is suffering from Ovarian Cancer Stage III-C. On September 14 she underwent a 14+ hr total hysterectomy. 1 week later, she had a Pulmonary Embolism, Violent diarhea and vomitting, resulting in Sepsis.
One week after her 1st surgery she underwent a emergency 2nd surgery to fix the leakages in colon and small intestine. In the end she has  colostomy, ileastomy and hysterectomy.

She is still in a hospital, having just transferred into a new one due to the anger and frustration by the staff at the previous one.

My 1st advice would be to closely monitor your hospital activities. Do  your research. Infectious diseases run rampant and hospitals are reluctant to reveal statistics. Find a friend who is in the medical profession to assist you.

Next: Be there as much as possible to keep the doctors and residents in check. Demand all operative, patient and nurse reports. Note down all activity and ask for credentials. Ask for risks, side effects for any medication given,

If the patient has Sepsis, prepare for death. The bombardment of antibiotics will severely cut down on the quality of life.

PRAY!!!!!

Stick by your loved one!!!
