Hi,

Just wanted to let you all know that I finally got in touch with Mrs. Witte in Munich.  She had quoted me 15,000 EUROS for the HIFU procedure.  That's an estimate of $21,000 USD.  I know price should not be an issue but if it is going to cost me $21,000 for the procedure in Germany(not including hotel and travel), I was thinking of just getting it done in Cancun by Dr. Suarez for $25,000. My friend lives in California so it is ONLY 4 hours by plane. Is this what it cost you to do it in Germany? This is a quote to have it done in December 2007 or January 2008.

Another question?  Does anyone have information on the hospital in Japan?  I found a  website for Teikyo and have sent them many e-mails but still no response.  Has anyone got any information or spoken to someone in Japan about HIFU?  The cost? The length of stay, etc?

Thanks

Hi,

I am performing the same search.  There are 2 kinds of HIFU machines, each touted strongly by its manufacturer.  As a former engineer, I prefer Abaltherm for its 2 crystals: 7.5 for viewing & 3 for heating.  A good view seems to be important.  $23,850 at Maple Leaf in Toronto 1-877-370-4438.  "IF" you like the Sonablate 500, the Mexican location is probably as good as Canada, but if I were going with Sonablate 500, I would prefer the Canadian government overseeing the process rather than Mexico, Bahamas, etc. government overseeing it!

Age 70, excellent health until  Dec 26 psa = 22.  Gleason 3+4=7 Jan 12.  All scans indicate no spread.  Psa Jan 28 = 28.  Luprone on Feb 01.  I'll probably select Maple Leaf in Toronto next week, for mid April.  Sightsee a couple of days, take the procedure, then catheter on airplane & for 10 days.

Let's keep in touch.

High intensity ultrasound cooks the whole prostate focused from the rectum.

I like Ablatherm (only at Maple Leaf hifu.ca) better than Sonablate 500, but phone both:  1-888-874-4384  &  1-877-370-4438

The Munich Hospital (And perhaps all of Europe?) had a price increase as of 1 October. The $/Euro conversion doesn't help, either! I got in under the wire and am scheduled for 7 November treatment. Nevertheless, one gets treatment with superior equipment (Ablatherm) operated by someone (Thuroff/Chaussy) who has performed more of these than anyone in the world. Their standard of treatment also includes a TURP and a stay in hospital and area long enough to deal with any challenges afterwards, seemingly a more thought-out procedure than putting one on a plane the day after and trusting there are no complications.

Can't help with any information regards Japan, sorry.

 Regards

I am just starting research on HIFU and have spoken to the people at Maple Leaf in Canada.  Can you please tell me of your experience in Munich, the name of the hospital, and why you chose them over others?

Since you are interested in HIFU I suggest you read the following site information. Look at #30 at http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,3457, I wrote this. A second article I wrote compares the two systems Sonablate and Ablatherm at this site http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,21238 You can also go to www.yananow.net and read my story of the actually procedure as I was awake during the whole procedure. For Sonoblate one can be awake but you can not move but for Ablatherm you can not be awake at all. The story is under the title of HIFU and the name of TV at http://www.yananow.net/Mentors/TV.htm
