Subject: My aunt starts chemo next week. Have a question
Date: 10/24/2007

Hi everyone--My aunt was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage 1C.  She went to her oncologist today & starts chemo of carbolatin & taxil next week.

I was very surprised to hear that the onocologist did not think it necessary to have sugery to install a chemo line?  He said that her veins looked good & he was just going to use them.

I know that I had a chemo line put in for my breast cancer.  But that was 10 years ago, & I know things have changed a lot since then.

Anyway, I sure appreciate all replies regarding the chemo line, plus any other tips you can give her while she's going through this.

Thanks for all your replies in advance. God Bless all you wonderful women!

Hi - my mom did not have a porta cath put in at first, they just used the veins in her arm.  Having a port put in has certainly made it easier to receive chemo though, and it also reduces the chance of damaging her veins.  They may look good right now, but who knows what they'll be like after finishing her treatments.  I would politely but firmly request to her doctor that one is put in.

It is great news that she was diagnosed in stage 1.  I wish you and your aunt the best of luck.
