Confused! Please Help!

I am so angry with doctors, my father's doctor just doesn't seem to want to be honest with my family.....my father started out with prostate cancer years ago and then lung cancer and then liver cancer and finally, at the last doctor appointment we were told it has spread to his lymph nodes.  What does this mean?  He never wants to seem to be straight with us!  I need to know how long I have with my father....he's now on a new chemo drug, don't know the name, and all the doctor had to say is that it may give him a few more months!  A few more months than what?!  I'm so confused, do I call the doctor and demand some answers?  My father is so optimistic, but so tired and not eating, he can barely walk.....I'm so confused.  Any help with anybody going through a similar situation would help me deal with this....

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Just yesterday, we found out my mom has a cancerous tumor on her liver. Her primary care doctor has been inept to say the least.  She has no answers and seems to know nothing about cancer.

We go see the oncologist next week and I am hoping for more answers.  My mom does not like to ask questions; she's very passive in these situations, so it is up to me to get to the bottom of what it happening, and you need to do the same thing.

I would highly recommend having your father get copies of his medical records from his doctor and go somewhere else for a 2nd opinion.  It's always wise as every doctor has a different approach. And yes, if you have to demand answers, then do so.  There is nothing wrong with taking a stand for your fathers life!  These doctors in our health care system are just too overloaded with patients and tend to write them off as just another medical record to get results to.  Keep on demanding answers and get a 2nd opinion.

I am so sorry about your mom!  I hope everything turns out okay.  My dad is on another chemo now because the pill form of chemo did nothing for him.  He's had 2 doses now and he is not eating, sleeps all the time and feels like he is freezing to death!  I just hate what chemo does to a person.  I hope your mother is going to be okay.  I've already lost my mother to breast cancer complications when I was only 10 years old and I remember her going through this whole routing my father is going through now and it's just sad to watch.  My father is so stubborn, I just don't think he would go for a 2nd opinion because he really seems to like this doctor and trusts him, which is scary.  The sad thing is, I dont' think the doctor gives a hoot about my dad, my dad is just too trusting in people.  The doctor says any chemo he tries now only has about a 20% chance of working on his cancer, so I fear the end is getting near for him.  Again, good luck with your mother and hang in there, okay?
